JARROD LANE, INSTALLATION AND OPERATIONS MANAGER AT WELL ROOTED GARDENS IN OMAHA

What factors motivated you to become certified?

I think the certification process is a great way of showing customers that we care about excellence. The Certification is an achievement that shows dedication and commitment to our field and I think customers really do care about that.

How has becoming certified affected your position or company?

It hasn’t changed my position much, but it has helped me to feel more comfortable in my position, more comfortable in talking with and serving customers.

What is your educational/work background?

Both the majority of my education and work experience is in Culinary and Hospitality fields. I have two associates degrees in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. I was also blessed to spend 15 years working in restaurants, catering, hospital foodservice, food trucks, and was even able to spend a little bit of time working abroad in Italy. Moving to the design-build-maintain world of the landscape industry started as just a break and shortly turned into something that I really enjoy doing. God opened this door and the work, my coworkers, and our customers have been a huge blessing to me.

JASON K. MATHIS, HEAD GROWER AT PEACEFUL PRAIRIE NURSERY, INC. IN MITCHELL

What factors motivated you to become certified?

I wanted to become a Nebraska Certified Nursery & Landscape Professional because I want to be able to give my customers the best possible information and advice with regard to their landscapes. Having become Certified will allow me opportunities to grow in my knowledge and understanding of best practices within the nursery and landscape industry.

How has becoming certified affected your position or company?

Attaining my Certification allows our customers to trust that they are receiving the best possible advice and information about plants.

What is your educational/work background?

I received an Associates of Applied Science in Horticulture from Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, SD in 2017. I completed my internship at Landscape Garden Centers, which is Sioux Falls Largest independent garden center. After graduation I worked for Weller Brothers Landscaping as a Professional Horticulturist doing landscape maintenance, annual bed designs, and best practices training for the company. In the winter of 2019, I took a job with Natural Beauty as a Grower in their 26-acre growing range in Sioux Falls. While there I oversaw between 4-6 acres of greenhouse depending on the section. In 2022 my husband and I made the decision to move back to Western Nebraska to be closer to both of our families. In the spring of 2023, I was hired at Peaceful Prairie Nursery Inc. where I still continue to work today.
